New York Motorcycle Show

The New York motorcycle show will take place on Friday, January 21, through Sunday, January 23, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. The Big Apple Motorcycle School will be at booth # 1558 – please visit us at the show! We will be on hand to pass out information, answer your questions and permit registration to any of our classes. Our last MSF Basic RiderCourse in 2010
Our last 2010 MSF Basic RiderCourse concluded successfully today with 9 graduates. This was our last scheduled class for the year! It’s been a whirlwind since our start in the summer and it was great to go out on a positve note. BAMS Fall 2010 Ride

Fall 2010 Reunion RideOur Fall 2010 reunion ride took place on Saturday, October 16. Ten riders on eight motorcycles ventured out for a lovely ride on a nice, brisk Fall day on Long Island. The group rode along the scenic north shore out to Riverhead then down to Westhampton Beach and back west again along the water on the south shore. We had quite an assortment of motorcycles!

Joining us were Allan on his Honda Fury, Eduardo and Maureen on their Can-Am Spyder, Jerry on his Honda ST1300, Felice on her Honda VTX1300, Randy on his Honda ST1300, Michael on hist Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, Diane on her Yamaha FZ6 and George on his BMW R1150R.

We finished the day at the Main Event restaurant in Plainview.

Fall Ride this Saturday

Join the instructors and staff of the Big Apple Motorcycle School for our semi-annual fall reunion ride! The folliage should be in full color and plans are to ride on Long Island and wind up at a restaurant for lunch. Join us for breakfast before the ride at the Bagel Factory in Farmingdale at 8 AM (see info below).

We are planning “sidestands up” at 9 AM for a scenic-paced group ride that will be suitable for all levels of riders. Those who have never ridden in a group will learn proper group riding techniques. The destination is a nice local restaurant for lunch.

All riders must be properly licensed and motorcycles must be registered and insured. Proper riding gear is required, including at the minimum, over-the-ankle boots, long pants, long sleeve shirt, full-fingered gloves and DOT-helmet and eye protection.. A preride inspection of all motorcycles will be performed. Please arrive with a full tank of gas. If you have a motorcycle EZPass please bring it. The ride will start from the Bagel Factory, 255 Airport Plaza Blvd, Farmindale (next to Bed, Bath and Beyond). Airport Plaza is at the corner of Route 110 and Conklin Street (Route 24) in Farmingdale, just north of Republic Airport.

9/21/10 Big Apple Motorcycle School President tours Idaho

Diane Ortiz rides through Yellowstone National Park


BAMS President Diane Ortiz had the pleasure of touring Idaho, Wyoming and Montana on Harley-Davidson motorcycles courtesy of the Idaho Tourism Board. The trip included a loop of Yellowstone National Park. Diane spent time riding the new Harley-Davidson XR1200X and the Sportster 1200 Low. The weather was cold and the group encountered snow on some of the high passes which were closed temporarily due to the cold weather.
 
 
 
 


8/30/10 Third MSF Basic RiderCourse completed!

10 Students successfully complete BRC

On Sunday, August 29th, ten students completed our third successful Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic RiderCourse at Dowling College in Oakdale! Congratulations to them for their commitment on becoming safe and proficient motorcyclists. The course started Friday night, August 27, with all students participating in the classroom segment where they learned about the different aspects of motorcycling in preparation for riding. The riding segment started on Saturday, August 28, where each riding learned how to start, stop, shift and turn. Additional on-motorcycle training continued on Sunday, August 29, and culminated with 9 students successfully completing their skill evalation and receiving their course completion cards. The day was hot but the students were able to overcome the high temperatures by drinking lots of fluids and resting often. Kudos to all for a successful course!
 
 

8/23/10 Second MSF Basic RiderCourse completed!

On Sunday, August 22th, nine students completed our second successful Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic RiderCourse at Dowling College in Oakdale! Congratulations to them for their commitment on becoming safe and proficient motorcyclists. The course started Friday night, August 20, with all students participating in the classroom segment where they learned about the different aspects of motorcycling in preparation for riding. The riding segment started on Saturday, August 21, where each riding learned how to start, stop, shift and turn. Additional on-motorcycle training continued on Sunday, August 22, and culminated with 9 students successfully completing their skill evalation and receiving their course completion cards. The day was wet but the students had the opportunity to experience riding in the rain. Kudos to all for a successful course!
 
 

8/16/10 First MSF Basic RiderCourse completed!

On Sunday, August 15th, nine students completed our first successful Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic RiderCourse at Dowling College in Oakdale! Congratulations to them for their commitment on becoming safe and proficient motorcyclists. The course started Friday night, August 13, with all students participating in the classroom segment where they learned about the different aspects of motorcycling in preparation for riding. The riding segment started on Saturday, August 14, where each riding learned how to start, stop, shift and turn. Additional on-motorcycle training continued on Sunday, August 15, and culminated with all students successfully completing their skill evalation and receiving their course completion cards. Each student used one of our new Kawasaki Eliminator 125cc motorcycles and were also provided helmets and gloves if they didn’t use their own. Kudos to all for a successful course!
 
 

7/29/10 Big Apple Motorcycle School to offer MSF Basic RiderCourse

New training option to start August 13

The Big Apple Motorcycle School is now authorized to offer the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic RiderCourse! This group class is a great introduction to motorcycling. The course will be held at Dowling College in Oakdale, NY (on the south shore of Suffolk County, Long Island). The class will be held on Friday evening (from 5 to 10 PM), Saturday (morning or afternoon) and Sunday (morning or afternoon). This intensive course will allow up to 12 students to be taught at one time with two instructors. Successful completion of the course will provide a road test waiver that allows the student to not have to take the DMV road test. A course completion card and a NY State motorcycle learner’s permit will yield at motorcycle license endorsement. MSF Basic RiderCourse

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic RiderCourse (BRC) is a nationally recognized rider training program. This extensive course is held over a three-day period and includes 5-hours of classroom instruction and 10-hours of on-motorcycle training. All training for the MSF BRC will be held at Dowling College on the south shore of Suffolk County in Oakdale, NY. The BRC is a group class with up to 12 students and 2 instructors. Successful completion of the course results in a New York State road test waiver that combined with a NY State Motorcycle Learner’s permit will yield your motorcycle license endorsement. This course includes use of helmet, gloves and one of our training motorcycles. Course requirements are a NY State Driver’s license, (a Motorcycle Learner’s permit is recommended but not required for training – see Changes to Learner’s Permit Requirements and see our ride prerequisites), proper attire and punctual attendance for all sessions.
